Update to the current rehearsal schedule

Just a quick note to update evrybody on the Senior Recorder rehearsal time. In consultation with the classroom teachers, Senior Recorder will take place on Day 2 during Silent Reading. Thank you to the co-operation of the classroom teachers for allowing this music enrichment program to go forward. I Hope evrybody has a great week end.

We have had an amazing number of students show interest in our music enrichment programs. To allow full involvement, I did need to schedule some rehearsals during silent reading. Students only miss ONE Silent reading period per SIX day cycle. Attendance is always at the classroom’s teacher discretion. The only group to be scheduled is the Senior recorder Group. We have considered early morning and after school times for these students but there are many transportation conflicts in both of these scenarios. I’ll post an update to the rehearsal schedule once the time for this group has been finalized.

Rehearsal Policy

All musical ensembles, except for the senior recorder group, have been through at least 2 rehearsals. The rehearsal policy attendance proticol at Eliot River is as follows:

  • Students are responsible to attend all rehearsals
  • If a student is absent from school, there is no repercussion for a missed rehearsal. If you’re not in school, you obviously can’t attend a reahearsal.
  • If a student choses to go outdoors instead of attending a scheduled rehearsal, they will be asked to make a decision – Are you staying in the ensemble or are you leaving the ensemble? If the student choses to remain a member, they can not miss any more rehearsals.
  • If a second rehearsal is missed, the student will be asked to leave the group knowing they can try again after Christmas.
  • If a music and phys-ed activity happen on the same day, students will be allowed to alternate their attendance between the two groups. Students must inform Mr. MacDougall or Mrs. M each time that they are absent for this reason.

Consistent Attendance is necessary to see progress and improvement. These guidelines will be followed and enforced when necessary. See ya at reahearsal.

Update on Musical Events – October

We are into October and the music department has had a very busy fall. On Oct. 5, the choir students, percussionists and several speakers presented a Thanksgiving Day Assembly to our student body. Thanks to everyone who donated food. The representative from Anderson House was very grateful for your generosity.

On Oct. 9, the choir hit the road to record the annual Children’s Wish Foundation Christmas CD at Trinity United Church. All proceeds from the sale of the CD’s will help fulfill wishes of children who have life threatening illnesses. Students who participated will be taking home an order form that you can fill in and send back to the school. The cost for students per CD is $10.00  which is $2.00 cheaper than they will be selling for in the stores. They make great Christmas Gifts. Please make cheques payable to the Children’s Wish Foundation and, yes, payment must accompany the form.

On Oct.10, several of our grade 6 students made a musical presentation to the School Board who held their meeting in the Eliot River Library. The project was developed with the help of most grade 5 and grade 6 classes but special thanks to the performers Andrew McInnis, Colin Kelly, Erika Harvey, Marshall MacIsaac, Daniel MacKinnon, Ben Keefe, Deanna MacKenzie, Niki MacNevin, and Allanna Dalziel. I was very proud of your performance.

Upcoming Events include our Remembrance Day Assembly in November, the Christmas Craft Fair, our grade 4 Christmas Concert and our Ensemble Christmas Concert.

For now, Have a tuneful Tuesday. Mrs. M

Back to school and Loving it

What a great start to our 2007/2008 school year! We’ve just had sign ups for our special music ensembles. We’ve had over 150 students sign up for choir , 65 students sign up for recorder and a whopping 85 students sign up for percussion. It’s great to see so many students involved. It’s important to remember that our lives at school need some balance. It’s great to be involved in music but there’s also phys-ed activities and social time at recess that can be awesome as well. I am thrilled to see so many people wanting to share their talent with me! Our rehearsals will start the week of Sept.17. We are currently doing our grade level team tugs at our school so I won’t have rehearsals this week so all students have the opportunity to participate in this fun event.

As a way to start off our school year with some warm fuzzy thoughts, I will be sending little “love”notes to the students to let them know how great they are. A student in each class will receive one note everyday until all the students in each class get a personal note from the music teacher. I try to make sure I do it every day but some days can be super busy. I’ll try very hard to be consistent.

Check back on the weekend and I will have our weekly rehearsal schedule set up for our ensembles.

Have a WACKY WEDNESDAY.
